This is a persuasive essay we had to do for Language Arts class. We could choose any topic, so I chose Horse Slaughter. It's not graphic or anything, so don't worry.
What is the most disgusting, inhumane thing you’ve heard about? No, it’s not animal cruelty, it’s something we don’t ever think about. It’s in some things we use, and eat that go unnoticed. It’s a thing called horse slaughter. Almost every girl’s dream is to own a horse, but people just throw their chance- and the horse’s away when they take a horse to an auction, or sell it to a slaughter house. Horse slaughter is painfully and inhumanely done to beautiful, magnificent horses.
Horse slaughter is wrong because the slaughter house owners but healthy horses that have nothing wrong with them from auctions, or even a private sale. They buy old and young horses, which could have a chance for a much, much better future in the world as a racer, show horse or even a child’s riding pony, but that horse will never know if it could have a better future than going to a frightening slaughter house. Slaughter house owners can also buy horses with good to perfect conformation or pedigree for cheap from private or auction sales, without the previous owner, or any one else knowing where that horse is going, or of it’s future.
100,000 horses die each year for human “needs.” What people don’t know is what they do to the horse to “put it down.” Before getting to the slaughter house, horses are crammed into double-deck trailers, which are meant for other types of animals; Even then, the horses are put into the overloaded trailers, some end up dying due to small, unsightly trailer quarters, disease, or not being able to stand properly, before they even reach the slaughter house!
Once they reach the slaughter house, the horses are slowly starved, instead of putting them down properly, and humanely. The horses are also severely whipped, and often get scared. What’s even worse, they separate mares from their foals, and make the foals stand and watch their mother, or rest of its family leave its life forever.
So what’s the point? The point is that horse meat and other things are in stuff we eat. Horse meat is in our pets’ food, and in some of our foods as well! Horse meat is in some types of salami, and ground bones are in gelatin, which is in Jell-o, but it’s ground up and refined, so it’s safe, but it’s still in there. Some horse things are in makeup we use, and they sometimes use the hide of the horse and put it on chairs and such.
Horse slaughter is wrong and everyone bypasses it without thinking about its effect. We need to save horses from the inhumane abuse and slaughter; if we kill these majestic beings, we might as well crush every girl’s dream while we’re at it. Put your foot down to slaughter; when you see an unhealthy, thin, malnourished horse, report it to someone-the police, an animal cruelty organization, or your parents. Speak up, the horses can’t. Save horses from slaughter, and save a little girls’ friend. Remember-horse slaughter is painfully and inhumanely done, and needs to be stopped. It’s in our food, makeup, pet food; it’s a stressful time for the horse as well. Get in the know and research organizations that help save horses, and see how you can help.
I wanna know what you think!! Tell me how good it sux, or how well written it is. I've already printed it out, so i'm not re-doing it, I just wanna know what you guys think.
