Nicole walked out of her office briskly, and turned to post things on the door.
HVES Three Day Jumping Clinic Schedule- Day 1
Objectives
Work on course design
Distances
Riding various horses (2-3 a person)
Arrival, check-in and get the horses settled
Discuss walking distances and how to judge them on the horse
Set distances of fences for the afternoon
Work with your horse for an hour under the instruction of Nicole, Michael or Sara.
Work with one to two other horses for a total of two hours
Discuss course design, get assignments for tommorow
Satisfied, she turned on her heel as she heard the first trailer pull up. She pulled out a checklist reading:
Casey Downs- 18 y/o- Advanced-Steel the Moment (Grey Thoroughbred mare)
Keira Downs- 17 y/o- Advanced- My Girl (Appaloosa mare)
Kari Tatlock- 18 y/o- Advanced- Summer Storm (Bay Thoroughbred gelding)
Kyle Sanchez- 16 y/o- Advanced- Royal Touch (Grey Mustang stallion)
Shallon Downs- 15 y/o- Intermediate- Paint By Number (Paint mare)
Ashley Downs- 9 y/o- Intermediate- Bunny Hop (Haflinger palomino gelding)
Christina Downs- 7 y/o- Intermediate- Boomerang Jack (Paint gelding)
Ashlee Nicole- 16 y/o- Intermediate- Risky Buisness (Black Appaloosa stallion)
Walking up, she put on a smile, waiting to see who the first participant would be.

Ashlee pulled up first, glad that she could get the first attention. The blue and silver horse trailer opened up as she led Risk out with a halter and lead rope attached and headed inside the barn. She would need the most work on spreads, sharp turns, and roll backs. Ashlee made her way to the stable area and stalled Risk into an empty box, latching the door, and making her way to the front; entering the main entrance. She read the sign on the door and went inside to the main office. Ashlee rang the silver bell on the desk, waiting for a trainer to her service. She waited patiently.

Casey expertly pulled the black Dodge 1500 into the driveway.The big truck pulled a black and siler Sundowner trailer, trailering 5 horses.She pulled into a parking space, and jumped out, followed by her younger sisters.BUNNY!!!!called the second to youngest, Ashley Downs.BUNNY WE'RE HERE!!!!Casey queited her gently, then opened the door on the side and stepped up into the large trailer.As the second to oldest, Keira, lowered the ramp, Casey unhooked Bunny Hop, or "Bunny" and backed him easily down the ramp.As she handed him off to Ashley, the other horses began pawing and kicking restlessly.Casey walked back in and backed out My Girl or "Sunshine" as she was known.Keira took her quickly, and Casey walked back up the rubber ramp to get Paint by Number, or "Baby" and handed the leather lead to Shallon, who led him away.Casey then got Boomerang Jack or "Boomer", and backed him out.The big paint was the biggest horse the Down's owned, but he was ridden by the littlest rider, the youngest of the group, Christina Downs.The little girl took the lead rope from Casey.Christina only reached to Bommer's chest, but the big gelding lowere dhis head so the girl could lead him away to munch grass.Casey smiled as she watched the huge gelding being so kind to her youngest sister.An impatient whinny rang from inside the trailer.Alright, Alright! I'm coming....Casey called, then walked in and led out her dapple gray thoroughbred mare, Steel The Moment, or "Sazzy".The drop dead gorgeous mare had perfect conformation and was an amazing mover.Casey had paid $200,000 for her, but it was worth every penny.The mare shook her neatly pulled dark gray mane from side to side, before it settled back onto a perfect line on her muscled crest.As the others walked their horses around to stretch their legs from the journey, Casey tied Sazzy to the trailer, then walked to the barn.She was wearing a neat green polo shirt, beige jodphers, and classy black tall boots.Her blonde hair was pulled neatly into a ponytail, and she had on a white baseball cap that stated; LionShare Farms.She walked into the office next to another girl she recognized from school.Great...she thought, but instead, smiled.As the girl rang the bell, she rolled her eyes.Hello?she called out, knowing that might work as well.

Kari pulled into the large lot with Jake's truck and her new one horse trailer. She smiled and hopped out grabbing her keys. She went around to the back of the beautiful trailer and opened up revealing a beautifuly groomed and pamperd bay Thoroughbred. She kissed to him at the same time her nickered to her. She laughed and walked inside. She stroked him on the nose and gave him a small kiss on his velvet soft nuzzle. "Well aren't you handsome." She said clipping on the lead rope. She slowly backed the gelding out onto the gravel. She gave him a pat and led him toward the barn. It was a beautiful day with the sun and light breeze. They walked into the clean and tidy barn. Kari found an empty stall and led Stom into it. She gave him a pat and uncliped the lead. "Ok good boy i'll be back soon." She said walking out and latching the door behind her. She walked toward the front to the main entrance and found ashlee and casey there. She walked up behind them. "Hey guys!" She said smiling warmly.

((A clinic isn't typically judged, but this one will be. The last day will be "trials" and points and cash will be awarded. I'm thinking that it'll be judged my rpg, how detailed, how correct, counting strides, etc, but we'll see how it goes. There will also be a best in clinic award which will be awarded for the overall grooming, tacking, riding, participation, etc.))
Nicole walked out into the main part of the office with a smile on her face. "Hey everyone. I'm Nicole, the main trainer here at Hidden Valley. We're going to start right away since we're only missing one person. You can all bring in your tack to the boarders tack room and you'll see I've cleared out an area for your supplies. I know most of you have put your horses just anywhere, but I have stall numbers for you. If you look, there's a number outside of each stall. Casey, I want your horse in the number one stall, Ashley's in two, Keiras in three, Christina's in four, Shallon's in five. Then, Keri, you're horse goes in six. Ashlee, your stallion can go in eight. Kyle's will go in 10."
She nodded, surveying the three girls in front of her. "Casey, I turst you'll tell the rest of your family what I've said. Once your horses are all in their stalls, grab some hay for them, check to make sure I've given them water, take off shipping boots if you need to and meet me back for our first discussion on distances and what we'll be doing this afternoon. I know you all want to work hard and learn, and I'm sure we'll have an amazing time. If any of you is interested in riding one of my newer project horses this afternoon after riding your own horse and one other, talk to me about it now. I have a few new ones that would give you a workout as well as a few seasoned eventers."
She waited for a response.

OoC: So, we aren't being judged right now? I'm just asking now because I'm making a project right now and tomorrow is Thanksgiving and all of the hustle and bustle. But, thanks!!
Ashlee grinned as Nicole came out. Listening and watching closely, Ashlee nodded to just about everything that had to do with her and Kyle. He was always late when it came to important events and shows like this one. Just then, a speeding truck and trailer pulled into the black parking lot, squeaking to a halt. Kyle jumped out, running quickly to the hauled trailer and sending the door down with a bang. Kyle blushed, but that didn't keep him from rushing. He climbed in as Majesty nickered. He clutched the blue-ribbon horse's brown leather halter and clipped the lead rope to the golden hook. He winded his hands down to the very bottom and tugged slightly, getting Maj's full attention to follow him down the ramp. As they reached the turf, Kyle shut the trailer door and clucked his tongue, geting Royal Touch into a steady trot, letting everyone who was watching a taste of their competition. Majesty's short strides extended into an extended trot as they headed into the stables. Kyle put Majesty into a box and latched it, running back inside to the lobby area. "Did I miss anything?" He said, panting from the long run. He smiled at Ashlee. "Hey." He whispered.

Casey rolled her eyes at the boy.Great, a show off...she thought, then smiled to Nicole and turned to walk out.When she got back to her siblings, she told them what was going to happen and they all took their horses to the stalls they were assigned.Casey took off Sazzy's mint green shipping boots, then put them outside the stall.She unclipped the leather lead from the leather halter, then straightened the mint green stable sheet the mare wore, which on one side stated:Hunter Champion 2005.Casey patted the mare's sleek neck, then walked out.Keira had settled Sunshine into her stall and taken her light yellow boots off, Shallon ditto except Baby had burgandy equiptment,Ashley's pony,Bunny, had pink equiptment, and Boomer,Chris's mount, hadsky blue equiptment.Soon they all were ready, and they grabbed their tack and grooming supplies etc, and put it in the designated areas.Then they found Nicole.Nicole, these are my sisters, Keira,Shallon,Ashley, and Christina, or Chris..Casey introduced them.

Kari nodded and went off to find Stom. She found him in his stall with his eyes half closed. She gently opened the large door and slid inside to be welcomed by a nicker. "hey we gotta move again." She said clipping the lead rope onto his halter. She led him to his assigned stall number 6. He sniffed a few things but seemed right at home. Kari gave him a pat and threw in some hay for him. "Here you go." She said as he started munching on it. While he was busy eating Kari undid his royal blue shipping boots and tail wrap. She gave him one last pat and slid back out of the stall. She walked back to the trailer and got all her tack, grooming supplies, ect. and put them in all the right spots. She dusted off her sweatpants and redid her hair. She then walked back over to the spot where they were told to meet by Nicole. She waited patiently for everyone to arrive.

Nicole smiled wryly at the boy running in out of breath. "And you must be Kyle. So nice of you to join us. No, you didn't miss much, just runa nd put your tack in the tack room and then come back here for a lecture and riding."
She turned to Casey with a smile. "Nice to meet you all," said said, nodding to each girl in turn. "Welcome."
Afer acknowleging the other girls she nodded, motioning for them to make themselves comfortable in the large family room. "So, today, I don't want to lecture too much, more riding. I'd like you all to ride two or three horses today so I can get an idea of your skills. Who can tell me how many steps a canter stride and a trot stride of a normal horse is?" she asked.

Kari listened to Nicole and some of the other small coversations going on. Once she heard the question being asked she raised her hand and answerd. "Of a normal horse, the canter has 3 beats and the trot has 2." She said.

Kyle nodded to Nicole and went back on running out the front glass door. Ashlee followed him out, but chose not to makee a fool of herself and run like crazy Kyle did. They eventually met up at the open trailer door and both stepped inside. On the saddle racks were all English saddles. Kyle quickly grabbed his Wintec All-Purpose Saddle and Ashlee took her Wintect Pro Jumping Saddle. Quickly hopping back out of the hauled trailer, Kyle closed and latched it up as they both WALKED inside, fashionably. They both put their saddles close to eachother as they went into the tack room busy of leather. Thinking ahead of time, they both already unloaded their halters and bridles, saving the heavier stuff for now.
Ashlee and Kyle arrived into the main office to chat with Nicole. Ashlee heard Nicole asking a question that she knew eversince she started riding. She interupted Kari talking. "Well, actually, it does all depend on the breed of horse and what state their gait is in. The regular trot is a 2 beat and the canter IS a 3, but extentions and colltions make a big difference. With an extended trot it would be 2.5 beats and with a collected trot it would be 1.5, or like an extended walk's speed. Same with the extended canter at 3.5 beats and collected at 2.5; the speed the same as the extended trot." Ashlee stated. "Just wanted to put in my six sense." She smiled.

The Down's stayed silent.THEY had been taugh tto wait their turn before speaking.They listened quietly...even if they didn't get to speak, they would show their skills under saddle...

She nodded with a smile. "Very good. So I want each of you to go out to the jumper ring here and set a combination of three jumps for two canter strides in between each. There's plenty of room, just space them out."
She dismissed them with a nod.

The Downs gang walked out.Christina put up a combo of three crossrails in a row, and with Casey's help, spaced them properly.Ashley put up thre two-foot verticals.Shallon laid out a cross rail, then two three foot verticals.Keira made three four foot oxars.Casey studied what was available, then made a vertical which stood five feet high, made of four poles which were different colors, which could be intimidating for some horses.Then she set up another vertical, four feet tall, with an X in the middle, which was an obtacle illusion to the horses.Finally she set up a five foot oxar, spread widely apart with an X going from the two jumps, so when the horse was jumping, if the rider looked down, they would see the X like you would see a crossrail before you jumped it. The girls stood and waited for Nicole.Casey's looks really hard.Ashley said to Keira, who nodded in agreement.
